Join an Innovative Farmers workshop looking at strip tillage in horticulture, hosted at Jake and Leah Harris' organic farm in South Devon.
This workshop will take place on Tue, 24 January 2023, 10:00 – 12:30 at Newton Downs Farm in Newton Ferrers, courtesy of Jake and Leah Harris.
A strip tillage system offers a number of benefits and is now used widely in regenerative arable systems. It has also been applied successfully in field-scale horticulture and a few have begun to use it an organic system. One of the main challenges is how to manage the cover crop without the use of herbicides.
This workshop is being hosted by Jake Harris, an organic grower who uses strip tillage methods to grow his organic vegetables. We’ll be listening to his experiences over the year, as well as having a look at his fields and the machinery he has been using. We’ll also be hearing from other speakers on the benefits of strip tillage, sharing experiences to date and discussing the priorities for further investigation and trials.
This is also an opportunity to join our new Innovative Farmers Field Lab, where growers will be trialling strip tillage methods on their own farms, and sharing their experiences and results.
There will be tea and coffee on arrival, and pasties for lunch!
If the event is booked up please do add your name to the waiting list as spaces may become available. If you have a ticket, and find you cannot make the event, please let us know as soon as possible so we can reallocate tickets.
