Tea Scotland
A group of independend tea growers looking for best practice and suport in the commercial cultivation of camellia sinensis tea across Scotland
Show MoreThe group is composed by the members of the Association of Scottish Tea Producers - a group of independent tea growers with a wide geographical spread, currently comprising 16 members from Orkney to Galloway, and from the Isle of Arran to the Fife coast.
The main objective of this RISS group is to support the commercial cultivation of camellia sinensis tea by members across Scotland; encourage collaboration and sharing of experience between growers; promote awareness of Scottish tea, as a product wholly grown and processed in Scotland, to the tea trade and the wider public, and; uphold high standards of quality and ethics in the production and sale of Scottish tea.
The long term aims of the group is to carry out trials to optimise the growing of tea. Once the group understand what tea exactly they have and it’s origins, investigations can be carried out into best growing conditions (soil, temperature etc.) to produce the best final product. The group are also keen to explore a number other potential funding sources and partnerships to provide a context for the evaluation of the status of current tea germplasm in Scotland and identify further sources of tea germplasm that are most likely to be suited to the Scottish environment and growing conditions.
