King Charles happy to hear Innovative Farmers still going strong

28 October 2026 Farmer-led research

The Soil Association’s Katrin Hochberg shared a special meeting with King Charles, where they had a positive discussion around Innovative Farmers. Katrin, the charity’s Director of Farming and Land Use, met His Majesty at a recent Harmony in Food and Farming event.

“I had the privilege to briefly discuss with His Majesty how Innovative Farmers is still going strong and continuing to evolve thanks to the long-standing support of his King Charles III Charitable Fund, the Rothschild Foundation and the Aurora and Mark Leonard Trust,” says Katrin. “King Charles helped inspire and support the programme more than a decade ago and he’s clearly still very passionate and well informed about Innovative Farmers.”

The programme was cast in a positive light again at the event, when NFU President Tom Bradshaw mentioned an enjoyable event he’d attended at triallist John Pawsey’s Suffolk Farm!

The Scottish event, at Ayrshire’s Dumfries House, brought together farmers, farmer networks, health campaigners, politicians, global food businesses, retailers, researchers, certifiers and investors from the UK, US and Europe. It focused on some of the biggest challenges and opportunities facing us, from financing the transition to more sustainable farming, to building trust through place-based food systems.
